Hi transform this community,
My part of the world is celebrating Family Day this weekend.
For me, the definition of a successful family boils down to a deep mutual respect, clear boundaries and a productive exchange of ideas across multiple generations.
Many organization like to refer to their employees as a family. We differ from this thought process at GoEmerald and transform this. Family members typically grow up together and organically form deep bonds + trust over a great length of time. Chosen families, communities and organizations do not have the luxury of this length of time. Operating with a family-mindset inside organizations risks creating inequity among newer members of the team. For a culture of innovation, organizations must work harder than that at welcoming multiple generations and inclusion.
Inclusion brings diversity by default. Then, diversity enables innovation by default.
We met for a workshop titled Innovation Across Generations in 2021. It was an enlightening discussion with multiple perspectives, at the height of pandemic. My favorite part was response from the global audience to this question:
As a leader, how do you explicitly seek ideas from other generations?
Enjoy a wonderful family day weekend and we will see you soon for another invigorating conversation.
Cheers,
Gunjan from GoEmerald & transform this
